KARACHI :July 26,2026: Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) is implementing a series of development projects to make Karachi greener, more sustainable, and more livable, said Karachi Mayor’s Spokesperson and Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentary Leader in KMC, Karamullah Waqasi. He said the initiatives will improve the city’s environment while expanding recreational, social, and community facilities for residents.
As part of this vision, KMC has started developing an Urban Forest at Aladin Park on Rashid Minhas Road. The project includes extensive tree and shrub plantation across nearly 50 acres of KMC land. It will also promote environmental conservation and eco-friendly public activities.
According to Waqasi, the Urban Forest will help reduce pollution, tackle climate change, and ease rising temperatures in Karachi. At the same time, it will provide families, children, and young people with a healthy green space to enjoy nature. The project will feature walking tracks, landscaped gardens, educational activities, environmental awareness programmes, and other eco-friendly recreational facilities. As a result, the site is expected to become one of Karachi’s leading urban green spaces.
Meanwhile, KMC is also building modern community centres under the guidance of Pakistan Peoples Party leadership and Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab. These centres will host social, cultural, educational, and welfare activities while offering residents high-quality public facilities.
Waqasi said KMC has completed the Community Centre at Gizri and will inaugurate it soon. In addition, the Community Centre at Morro Mir Bahar is nearing completion and will open to the public shortly. Both facilities will host community events, educational programmes, and welfare initiatives for women, youth, and senior citizens, strengthening community engagement and social development.
Waqasi reaffirmed KMC’s commitment to environmental protection, urban development, and public welfare. He said projects such as the Urban Forest, green public spaces, and modern community infrastructure reflect KMC’s vision of building a cleaner, greener, healthier, and more livable Karachi. Finally, he urged citizens to support tree plantation drives and environmental conservation efforts to help create a sustainable future for coming generations.
