FPCCI Calls for Stronger Trade, Banking Links Among D-8 Countries

KARACHIJuly14,2026: The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has called for stronger economic cooperation, trade, investment and banking connectivity among member states of the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation.

FPCCI President Atif Ikram Sheikh said the D-8 region offers significant economic potential. Therefore, closer collaboration among member countries can boost regional trade, attract investment and support sustainable economic growth.

He made these remarks while welcoming a meeting between FPCCI Vice President Quratul Ain and D-8 Secretary General Ambassador Sohail Mahmood at the D-8 Secretariat in Istanbul.

During the meeting, both sides discussed ways to strengthen Pakistan’s engagement with D-8 countries and expand bilateral and multilateral trade and investment.

They also stressed the need to improve banking connectivity across D-8 member states. Better financial linkages, they said, would facilitate cross-border transactions, reduce trade barriers and encourage stronger business-to-business cooperation.

Meanwhile, Quratul Ain reaffirmed FPCCI’s commitment to expanding economic ties with D-8 countries. She also called for stronger institutional cooperation between FPCCI, the D-8 Secretariat and the chambers of commerce of member states.

In response, Ambassador Sohail Mahmood appreciated FPCCI’s efforts to promote regional economic integration. He reaffirmed the D-8 Secretariat’s commitment to working closely with the private sector to achieve the organization’s economic goals.

FPCCI also announced that it will host an interactive session of its National Committee on D-8 CCI on July 23, 2026, at Federation House, Karachi.

The event will bring together diplomats from D-8 member countries, business leaders and FPCCI members to discuss trade, investment, banking connectivity and stronger private-sector cooperation across the D-8 region.
