KARACHI:July 29,2026: The United Arab Emirates’ suspension of visas for Pakistani nationals is disrupting Pakistan’s exports and international trade, said Ismail Suttar, Founder Chairman of the Salt Manufacturers Association of Pakistan (SMAP).
Suttar said the UAE is currently not issuing visas to Pakistani citizens under any category. As a result, exporters, traders, and business delegations are facing growing difficulties. He added that UAE authorities have not officially explained the restrictions, leaving Pakistan’s business community uncertain about future trade activities.
Moreover, Suttar warned that the visa freeze is already affecting preparations for Gulfood 2027, scheduled to take place in Dubai early next year. He said many Pakistani food companies may skip the exhibition because they fear their sales teams and business representatives will not receive UAE visas.
“When sales representatives cannot obtain visas, companies cannot showcase their products, meet international buyers, or explore new export opportunities,” he said. He warned that prolonged restrictions could weaken Pakistan’s efforts to expand exports in regional and global markets.
Furthermore, Suttar urged the Government of Pakistan to engage with UAE authorities through diplomatic channels to resolve the issue without delay. He stressed that restoring visa access is essential to facilitate business travel, protect trade interests, and prevent further losses to the country’s export sector.
He also cautioned that if the restrictions continue, Pakistan could lose valuable business opportunities, reduce its presence at international trade exhibitions, and allow competitors from other countries to capture markets traditionally served by Pakistani exporters.
