PBA launches drive to counter rising digital banking fraud in Pakistan

The Pakistan Banks Association (PBA), in partnership with the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), has launched a nationwide Fraud Awareness Campaign to tackle the surge in digital financial scams targeting citizens across the country.

As Pakistan’s financial sector rapidly digitises, customers are increasingly exposed to phishing attempts, fraudulent calls, fake websites and online stores designed to steal personal information.

Banking officials say these scams have evolved in sophistication, prompting the industry to respond with a coordinated public safety effort.

The awareness drive focuses on educating customers to never share sensitive details such as PINs, passwords, account numbers, debit or credit card information and one-time passwords (OTPs).

The campaign urges the public to avoid clicking unknown links, verify communication from official sources, and immediately report any suspicious activity.

Industry representatives say the initiative marks a unified effort by banks to strengthen public trust in digital channels at a time when mobile banking, internet banking and online payments are experiencing record growth.

The campaign’s message — that safe banking is a shared responsibility — will be broadcast across television, radio, and digital platforms nationwide.
