Sindh Government Reaffirms Support for Karachi Industry, Moves Toward SITE Reform

KARACHI :May 21,2026 :Sindh Industries Minister Jam Ikramullah Khan Dharejo has pledged full government support for Karachi’s industrial sector. He made this commitment during the S.I.T.E. Association of Industry Meet & Greet Dinner in Karachi. He also acknowledged the private sector’s role during recent crises and outlined plans for structural and financial reforms in key industrial zones.

In addition, he thanked Zubair Motiwala and Saleem Parekh for supporting the Sindh government during difficult times. He specifically referred to fire incidents at Gul Plaza, Saddar Cooperative Market, Jubilee Market, and Bolton Market, which caused major losses to traders and businesses.

Meanwhile, the minister announced a follow-up meeting on the long-pending proposal to separate SITE Karachi from SITE Limited. He said the government aims to push administrative reforms in one of the country’s most important industrial areas.

Furthermore, he said the government wants stronger private sector participation in infrastructure development. However, he clarified that new funds for DMCs and associations will only be released after proper utilization of previous allocations. According to him, this will improve accountability and ensure better results.

Earlier, Zubair Motiwala urged the Sindh government to work closely with the business community. He called for improved governance of SITE Limited and higher industrial output and exports. Moreover, he strongly supported separating SITE Karachi and handing it over to a professionally managed setup based on merit.

He also stressed that SITE Limited should focus on other struggling industrial zones. At the same time, he warned that high utility costs are hurting industrial productivity and need urgent attention.

In addition, Saleem Parekh thanked the guests for attending the event on short notice. He emphasized the need for regular engagement between government and industry. He also appreciated the minister for releasing funds for industrial infrastructure development.

Earlier, Ahmed Zulfiqar Chaudhry welcomed all guests and highlighted the importance of the gathering. Later, Tahir Goreja concluded the event and urged efforts to strengthen exports, improve foreign exchange earnings, and create more jobs.

Finally, participants paid tribute to Pakistan’s armed forces for maintaining peace and responding to past external aggression. They also honored the late Siraj Kassam Teli for his services to the business community.
