ISLAMABAD, Aug. 6, 2026: The U.S. Embassy in Pakistan has highlighted new opportunities to strengthen U.S.-Pakistan cooperation in agricultural technology, encouraging greater trade, investment, and technology transfer to modernize Pakistan’s farming sector.
Speaking during a Direct Line webinar organized by the Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU) in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy, the U.S. Department of Commerce, and the Government of Pakistan, Chargé d’Affaires Natalie A. Baker said agriculture remains the backbone of Pakistan’s economy, contributing nearly one-quarter of the country’s GDP and supporting millions of livelihoods.
She said American companies can help transform Pakistan’s agriculture by introducing precision farming equipment, advanced irrigation systems, digital farm management solutions, and cold-chain logistics. Baker added that these technologies can improve productivity while conserving water and other valuable resources.
The webinar also explored ways to expand bilateral agricultural trade. U.S. agricultural and related exports to Pakistan exceeded $1.5 billion in 2025, while Pakistani officials highlighted policy reforms aimed at increasing imports of U.S. products, including soybeans, cotton, and planting seeds.
Participants also encouraged greater U.S. investment in farm mechanization, food processing, biotechnology, seed development, and controlled-atmosphere storage to strengthen Pakistan’s agricultural value chain.
Baker said American investment brings not only advanced technology but also knowledge transfer, workforce training, and long-term business partnerships that support sustainable economic growth.
The event also promoted the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Certified Agricultural Technologies Trade Mission to Pakistan, scheduled for October 26-30, 2026. Baker invited American companies to explore investment opportunities in Pakistan’s expanding agricultural technology and food processing sectors.
