KARACHI, August 19, 2026: The Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) has received its third consecutive Platinum Performance Achievement Award from the American College of Cardiology (ACC) for its continued delivery of evidence-based and guideline-directed care to heart attack patients.
The award recognises AKUH’s participation in the ACC Chest Pain-MI Registry, which enables hospitals to measure cardiac care against international clinical standards and identify areas for improvement.
Dr Farhat Abbas T.I., S.I., CEO of AKU Health System, Pakistan, said the recognition reflects AKUH’s commitment to evidence-based, patient-centred cardiac care and its efforts to improve treatment outcomes.
Through the registry, AKUH’s clinical teams use data to strengthen the quality and consistency of heart attack treatment, from timely assessment and diagnosis to intervention and follow-up care.
Doctors at AKUH also highlighted the growing burden of heart disease in Pakistan, particularly concerns over heart attacks among younger adults. They stressed the importance of early identification of risk factors, prevention and continuous improvement in cardiac treatment.
Dr Javed Majid Tai, Director of the Cath Lab and Site Director of the National Cardiovascular Data Registry at AKUH, said continuous measurement against established standards helps teams provide more consistent care.
Dr Farhala Baloch, Assistant Professor of Cardiology at AKUH, emphasised that understanding changing patterns of heart disease is essential for strengthening prevention and treatment.
The third consecutive Platinum award highlights AKUH’s ongoing commitment to delivering safe, high-quality heart attack care and continuously improving cardiac services.
