KARACHI ,June 11,2026: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has launched its first-ever Research Agenda for 2026-2029, outlining key research priorities to support evidence-based policymaking and strengthen the country’s financial system.
The agenda comes at a time when economies face rapid technological change, recurring supply shocks, climate challenges, and long-standing structural issues. Therefore, SBP has aligned the initiative with its statutory mandate and SBP Vision 2028.
Moreover, the agenda provides a clear roadmap to strengthen the analytical foundation of monetary policy, regulatory frameworks, and economic decision-making.
SBP has organized the agenda around three core themes. First, it will focus on inflation dynamics and monetary policy. Second, it will examine financial sector deepening, stability, and efficiency. Third, it will explore structural transformation and economic development.
Through these themes, the central bank aims to address key research gaps and support informed macroeconomic policymaking over the next three years.
In addition, SBP has emphasized the importance of collaboration and knowledge sharing. Therefore, it plans to work closely with academics, policy researchers, government institutions, and other stakeholders.
Furthermore, the central bank intends to strengthen partnerships at both individual and institutional levels. As a result, it hopes to generate high-quality research that can help address emerging economic and financial sector challenges.
Overall, the Research Agenda marks an important step toward strengthening policy research and enhancing the effectiveness of economic decision-making in Pakistan.
