Jacob Elordi underwent an extreme transformation to play the Creature in Guillermo del Toro’s gothic drama Frankenstein, earning a 2026 Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
The 28-year-old actor spent hours each day in the makeup chair, applying 42 prosthetics to bring the grotesque monster to life. Speaking to Netflix’s Tudum in November, Elordi described the intense process:

“Your skin gets washed out and covered with something new. Your face, and its structure, change. Then you put the costume on—there’s leather and furs, and the weight—it’s all real.”
Elordi emphasized that the transformation started long before filming, with the character coming to life as soon as he stepped into the makeup trailer.

“Guillermo said this would be not just a meditation, but a metamorphosis,” he explained.
Director Guillermo del Toro praised Elordi’s dedication, telling E! News that the actor performed with “grace, patience, and love.” Del Toro compared the meticulous process to a priest preparing for a ceremony:
“There are many layers to the robes and the ceremonial guard. You have to think, this is your Ceremonial Guard. You’re invoking the Creature. The result is heartbreaking and beautiful. It’s a really naked performance—emotionally so close to innocence that it breaks your heart.”

“I’ll remember this forever. It completely reignited my passion for movies… I have a whole different energy toward making films now.”
