Carrie Coon has returned to the theatre spotlight with a revival of the psychological thriller Bug, following widespread praise for her Emmy-nominated performance in The White Lotus season three.
The 44-year-old actor stars in the stage production, which opened on January 8 at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre. Originally premiering in London three decades ago, Bug was later adapted into a feature film and has since become a cult favourite.

The role marks Coon’s first stage appearance since 2012, when she starred in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf. In Bug, she plays Agnes, a troubled waitress battling addiction and alcoholism while grappling with profound loneliness.
Audience reaction to Coon’s performance has been overwhelmingly positive, with theatre-goers praising the emotional intensity of the production — particularly the play’s final monologue, which has drawn comparisons to her powerful monologue on friendship in The White Lotus.

The play is written by Tracy Letts, Coon’s husband and a Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright, and is directed by David Cromer, a Tony Award-winning director. The production has received strong critical response since opening.
Due to increased demand and positive reviews, Bug has been extended by two weeks. Coon will continue her run as Agnes through February 22.
