KARACHI, Aug. 6, 2026: The Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company (SECMC) brought together government officials, mining firms, academia and global technology providers at the Mining Technical Conference 2026, urging greater collaboration, skills development and technological innovation to accelerate Pakistan’s mining sector.
Held under the theme “Driving Pakistan’s Mining Sector through Collaboration, Innovation & Technology,” the conference highlighted the need for a unified platform where industry stakeholders can address common challenges and develop long-term partnerships.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, the chief guest, said Pakistan’s vast mineral reserves could drive employment, industrial growth and economic development if supported by responsible investment, modern technology and skilled human resources. He noted that the development of Thar coal has already saved the country $3.2 billion in fuel import costs, adding that the Sindh government would continue facilitating responsible mining investments.
SECMC Chief Executive Officer Amir Iqbal said no single organization could transform Pakistan’s mining industry alone. He stressed that mining companies, universities, technology providers and government institutions must work together to strengthen research, workforce development and technology adoption.
The conference featured participants from leading organizations, including Reko Diq Mining Company, Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), HUBCO, Fauji Group, Lucky Cement, Komatsu, DMT Germany and EACON Mining Technology.
Technical sessions focused on artificial intelligence, automation, digital mining, equipment modernization, ESG practices, exploration and operational efficiency. Speakers emphasized that technological progress must be matched by investment in skilled engineers, geologists, equipment operators and data specialists.
Participants also proposed establishing a National Mining Industry Platform to promote collaboration, research, knowledge sharing and policy coordination across the sector. They further recommended making the Mining Technical Conference an annual event to review industry progress and future priorities.
