PSX Investor Base Tops 600,000 for First Time as Retail Participation Surges

KARACHI, Aug. 6, 2026: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) has crossed 600,000 investors for the first time, highlighting growing public participation in Pakistan’s capital market.

According to the latest data, the total number of investors reached 607,025 in July 2026. The exchange added 23,973 new investor accounts during the month, making it the second-highest monthly increase in its history.

Since June 2022, the PSX has added more than 332,000 investors, expanding its investor base from 275,000 to over 607,000—an increase of 121% in just over four years.

The pace of growth has also accelerated significantly. Average monthly investor additions increased from around 2,300 in FY23 and FY24 to 5,300 in FY25. In FY26, the figure jumped to 15,860, the highest annual average on record.

The latest surge has been driven largely by Gen Z and first-time retail investors, reflecting growing interest in equity investing. Easier access to digital trading platforms, rising financial awareness, and improving confidence in Pakistan’s economic outlook have encouraged more individuals to enter the stock market.

The rapid expansion in the investor base suggests that Pakistan’s capital market is becoming broader and more inclusive. A larger retail investor base can improve market liquidity, strengthen price discovery, and provide listed companies with greater access to domestic capital. If the current momentum continues, it could further deepen Pakistan’s capital markets and support long-term wealth creation among individual investors.
