K-Electric CEO Pledges Crackdown on Power Theft, Faster Upgrades for SITE Industries KARACHI, May 23, 2026: K-Electric CEO Syed Muhammad Taha pledged strict action against illegal electricity connections and power theft. At the same time, he promised faster infrastructure upgrades for industries in SITE. He made these commitments during his visit to the SITE Association of Industry along with senior KE officials. During the meeting, Taha assured industrialists that K-Electric would improve service delivery and resolve long-standing industry complaints. Moreover, he said KE is introducing technological upgrades to strengthen the power system. These measures include better outage management systems, electronic monitoring, and gradual modernization of the distribution network. In addition, he said the Multi-Year Tariff (MYT) issue would likely be resolved by September this year. Speaking about operational reforms, Taha said KE is working closely with law enforcement agencies and relevant authorities to stop power theft and illegal connections. Consequently, the utility aims to improve system stability and ensure fair electricity distribution. Furthermore, KE decided to prioritize infrastructure upgrades in heavily industrialized feeders and PMT zones. The company also plans to improve response times for emergency breakdowns and technical faults affecting industries. Taha pointed out that overlapping jurisdictions in some areas delay repair work because authorities take time to grant permissions. Therefore, he stressed the need for better coordination among departments. He also said KE should replace 11 KVA transmission lines with 33 KVA lines to improve efficiency. Meanwhile, he added that the ISPA charges issue is also under discussion at the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC). Earlier, Acting President Ahmed Zulfiqar Chaudhry welcomed the KE CEO and highlighted the importance of the SITE industrial area. He said the zone spreads over nearly 4,700 acres and contributes around $2.8 billion annually in exports. Chaudhry also noted that Taha earned a strong reputation during his tenure as CEO of PSO. Therefore, he expressed hope for better coordination between industries and K-Electric under the new leadership. Meanwhile, Patron Saleem Parekh congratulated Taha on assuming charge. He emphasized the need for improved fault detection systems, stronger operational coordination, and faster complaint resolution. Former President Javaid Bilwani discussed recurring technical faults, the impact of cross-subsidies, and industrial competitiveness. Similarly, Former SVP Khalid Riaz shared views on industrial facilitation and operational coordination. Chairman Energy Sub-Committee Muhammad Kamran Arbi appreciated the improved engagement between KE and the Association. He also stressed the need for quick resolution of technical issues. In addition, Zonal Chairman APTPMA Anwer Aziz highlighted the incremental use benefit. He said many industries have already transferred the benefit to consumers. Vice President Muhammad Tahir Goreja, Immediate Past President Ahmed Azeem Alvi, former office bearers, Executive Committee members, and industrialists also attended the meeting. They exchanged views on industrial operations, infrastructure, and utility-related matters.
