KARACHI:Aug 10,2026: A nationwide strike by goods transporters has raised concerns over disruptions to industrial activity, supply chains and exports. Business leaders have warned that prolonged cargo suspension could slow production and put further pressure on Pakistan’s economy.
S.I.T.E. Association of Industry (SAI) President Abdul Rehman Fudda said the strike has created serious challenges for manufacturers. He noted that factories depend on the timely supply of raw materials and the smooth delivery of finished goods.
According to Fudda, a prolonged transport shutdown could halt production at factories that cannot receive essential inputs. At the same time, delays in delivering finished products could increase financial pressure on businesses.
He said export-oriented industries face an even greater risk. If companies fail to deliver export consignments on time, foreign buyers could impose penalties, reduce prices or seek compensation.
Fudda also warned that transport disruptions could damage Pakistan’s reputation among international buyers. Delayed shipments could affect future orders and weaken the country’s export competitiveness.
Meanwhile, industrialists said the manufacturing sector is already facing multiple challenges. Therefore, another disruption to logistics could further increase operating costs and disrupt production schedules.
Fudda urged the government to immediately intervene and resolve the dispute through negotiations with transporters.
He warned that if the strike continues, its impact will spread beyond factories. Exports, employment, supply chains and overall economic activity could also suffer significant losses.
