A significant shift unfolded in the tragic Ibrahim manhole case after Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) released a video featuring the child’s grandfather, who revisited earlier statements and discussed the evolving Ibrahim rescue claim narrative.
In the video released from the official KMC Facebook page, Mohammadul Hassan said the family initially learned through others that a young waste-picker named Tanveer allegedly recovered Ibrahim’s body from the manhole near the NIPA flyover.
He recalled how Tanveer claimed he began searching after hearing that people nearby were desperately looking for a missing child, eventually asserting he had found the body alone.
However, Hassan noted the boy had no photos, videos, or physical evidence to support his claim, making the family question how such a challenging recovery could have been completed independently.

Despite doubts, the family briefly accepted the possibility after the story spread rapidly in the media, with reporters interviewing Tanveer and presenting him publicly as the one who discovered Ibrahim.
Hassan said the truth became clearer when the family finally reviewed concrete evidence showing that Karachi Metropolitan Corporation staff, not the child, carried out the body’s recovery from inside the manhole.
The video and images reviewed by the family documented municipal officials actively participating in the operation, contradicting widespread claims that a young waste-picker was responsible for the recovery.
According to Hassan, these visuals provided a factual timeline of events, demonstrating that trained KMC personnel performed the task using proper equipment and coordinated efforts at the scene.
He expressed gratitude toward the officials, acknowledging their work and stating that the evidence removed confusion and allowed the family to understand who truly recovered the child’s body.

In the released video, a person standing behind the camera can be heard repeatedly prompting Mohammadul Hassan, the grandfather of Ibrahim, to acknowledge KMC’s role and appreciate the corporation’s efforts during the rescue operation.
This raised further discussion about how the Ibrahim rescue claim changed over time, especially since the grandfather had earlier held Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab responsible for the tragic accident.
Hassan said he plans to hold a detailed press conference, present all verified material, and publicly clarify the actual sequence of events and those genuinely involved in the recovery operation.
