Muhammad Saeed Sheikh Conferred with Sitara-e-Khidmat by President of Pakistan

Islamabad: Muhammad Saeed Sheikh, a distinguished Pakistani-American humanitarian, community leader, and advocate for Pakistan-United States relations, was conferred the prestigious civil award Sitara-e-Khidmat by the President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, during an official investiture ceremony held at Aiwan-e-Sadr on May 13, 2026.

The award was bestowed in recognition of Mr. Sheikh’s more than 45 years of dedicated humanitarian service, civic leadership, philanthropy, and outstanding contributions toward strengthening people-to-people relations between Pakistan and the United States.


The prestigious ceremony at Aiwan-e-Sadr was attended by senior government officials, diplomats, members of civil society, distinguished guests, and recipients of national honors from across Pakistan and overseas.

Expressing his gratitude after receiving the honor, Muhammad Saeed Sheikh thanked Allah (SWT) for His countless blessings, guidance, and strength throughout this journey of service and said that I accept this prestigious recognition with deep humility and gratitude.

He said that this honor is not solely mine, but belongs to all those individuals, organizations, volunteers, and supporters who have stood beside me throughout this journey of service to humanity. I dedicate this recognition to the people of Pakistan, the overseas Pakistani community, and all those who believe in compassion, unity, and service beyond borders.

“I would also like to express my sincere appreciation to Syed Javaid Anwar for his unwavering support, encouragement, and commitment toward humanitarian, educational, and community development initiatives that have positively impacted countless lives. I extend my special gratitude to my late parents, my wife, Farida Sheikh, and my sons, Sufiyan Sheikh and Sameer Sheikh, for standing beside me throughout this journey with their love, patience, encouragement, and unwavering support”, he added.

Mr. Sheikh began his journey of community service in Hyderabad, Sindh, through Junior Chamber International (JCI), where he later served as National President of JCI Pakistan and was honored with the distinction of JCI Senator. His leadership and commitment to social development laid the foundation for decades of public service that later expanded internationally following his move to Houston, Texas.

Over the years, Mr. Sheikh has played a significant role in promoting humanitarian relief, civic engagement, and community development initiatives through various organizations and platforms in both Pakistan and the United States.

As Coordinator of Alliance for Disaster Relief in Houston, he mobilized humanitarian assistance worth millions of dollars during major crises, particularly during devastating floods, earthquakes, and natural disasters affecting Pakistan. His efforts brought together faith-based organizations, volunteers, community institutions, and humanitarian partners to support relief and rehabilitation activities for affected communities.
As President of the Houston–Karachi Sister City Association, operating under Sister Cities of Houston, Mr. Sheikh has played an instrumental role in strengthening cultural understanding, civic diplomacy, humanitarian collaboration, and bilateral engagement between Pakistan and the United States.

Under his leadership and through collaborative efforts with community leaders and philanthropists, numerous humanitarian and development initiatives were launched in Pakistan, including clean drinking water projects, installation of Reverse Osmosis water plants in underserved communities, delivery of medical supplies and healthcare equipment to hospitals and healthcare institutions, educational development initiatives, youth empowerment programs, and humanitarian assistance projects.

Among the major educational initiatives undertaken during his recent visit to Pakistan was the groundbreaking and reconstruction of the Siraj-ud-Dola Girls and Boys Primary School in North Nazimabad, Karachi, in collaboration with the Momina and Duraid Foundation of HUM Network and with support from Houston-based philanthropists and community partners. The initiative aims to transform the school into a modern educational facility for underserved children.

Mr. Sheikh is also widely recognized for organizing the annual Houston Iftar gathering, regarded as one of the largest interfaith Ramadan events in the United States, promoting unity, inclusion, interfaith harmony, and stronger community relations among diverse communities.

Throughout his decades of public service, Mr. Sheikh has received numerous national and international recognitions for his humanitarian contributions and civic leadership, including community leadership honors, civic commendations, and distinguished awards in the United States.

During his remarks, he also paid tribute to the late Ashfaq Seth for his longstanding contributions to community service and humanitarian causes, acknowledging his inspiration and dedication toward serving humanity.

Muhammad Saeed Sheikh reaffirmed his commitment to continue serving humanity, strengthening Pakistan–United States relations, and building bridges of friendship, understanding, and cooperation between communities around the world.
