KARACHI, September 8,2026: Karachi’s development is gaining momentum under the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government, with several major infrastructure and healthcare projects aimed at improving civic services and easing traffic problems.
Karachi Mayor’s Murtaza wahab, Spokesperson and PPP Parliamentary Leader in the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), Karamullah Waqasi, said the city was entering a new era of development.
He said PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab were working together to accelerate development across Karachi.
According to Waqasi, the PPP is focusing on practical development instead of political slogans. As a result, work on roads, bridges, flyovers, underpasses and public facilities is moving forward across the city.
Several major projects have already been completed. Others are progressing rapidly. These include Shahrah-e-Bhutto, Azeem Pura Flyover, Karimabad Underpass, Senator Taj Haider Bridge and Korangi Causeway.
A bridge over the railway crossing at the Malir Export Processing Zone in Ibrahim Hyderi is also part of the development programme.
Waqasi said Shahrah-e-Bhutto is one of Karachi’s key transport projects. It connects the southern parts of the city with the M-9 Motorway. The project has also improved connectivity between different areas of Karachi.
He said the inauguration of Shahrah-e-Bhutto by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was an important milestone for the city.
Meanwhile, the Azeem Pura Flyover has improved traffic movement between Shahrah-e-Bhutto, Shah Faisal Colony, Shahrah-e-Faisal and Jinnah International Airport.
The flyover was completed in 90 days. This was faster than the original 100-day target. Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah inaugurated the project in June 2026.
Waqasi said the bridge at the Malir Export Processing Zone has also improved connectivity in Ibrahim Hyderi. It is expected to support both residents and businesses in the area.
Similarly, the Karimabad Underpass, Senator Taj Haider Bridge and Korangi Causeway are helping improve traffic flow. They are also expected to reduce commuting difficulties for citizens.
The PPP leader said the government was paying special attention to Karachi’s industrial areas, particularly Korangi and Landhi.
The 515-metre Korangi-Landhi Flyover was inaugurated in August 2026. The flyover is located on 12,000 Road in Korangi No. 5.
The project cost more than Rs746 million. It is expected to improve traffic movement between Korangi, Landhi and nearby industrial areas. It could also make it easier for workers and businesses to travel in the area.
Waqasi said Karachi’s development was not limited to roads and bridges. The city’s healthcare facilities were also being improved.
He said the Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases had been revitalised. Cardiac treatment facilities were restored and expanded.
According to performance figures reported by the Mayor, more than 3,000 heart surgeries and 240 angioplasties were performed at the institute during the preceding year.
Waqasi also highlighted improvements at Spencer Eye Hospital. He said more than 200 eye operations had been performed following its restoration.
Meanwhile, further improvements are being made at other municipal healthcare facilities.
The city’s development programme also includes parks, sports facilities and public spaces. Improvements at Peoples Square, Kakkri Ground and Baldia Sports Complex are part of these efforts.
Waqasi said coordination between the Sindh government and KMC had also improved. This coordination is helping authorities speed up development projects across Karachi.
He said the leadership of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Murad Ali Shah and Murtaza Wahab had created a coordinated approach to the city’s development.
Waqasi added that Karachi’s citizens were increasingly judging political parties by their practical performance rather than promises.
He reaffirmed that Karachi would be taken further forward under Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s leadership.
He said the Sindh government and KMC would continue working together to make Karachi a modern, connected and economically vibrant city.
