KARACHI, July 29, 2026 : Standard Chartered Pakistan hosted a legal awareness session in collaboration with the Legal Aid Society (LAS) to promote greater understanding of women’s rights, legal protections, and access to justice.
The session brought together employees from across the bank, including support and contractual staff, as part of Standard Chartered’s efforts to build a more inclusive workplace and expand awareness across its workforce.
Legal experts discussed key issues affecting women, including inheritance rights, the Nikahnama, cyber safety, online harassment, gender-based violence laws, and legal remedies available in Pakistan. Participants also learned about support services such as the Sindh Legal Advisory Call Center (SLACC) and NAZ Assist, a free multilingual legal advisory chatbot.
Barrister Haya Emaan Zahid, Chief Executive Officer of the Legal Aid Society, and Advocate Farah Khan, the organization’s Strategic Litigation Lead, led the session. They highlighted the importance of legal awareness, access to justice, and stronger protections for women. Representatives from the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI) and Jazz also attended the event.
Yasir Khwaja, Head of Human Resources at Standard Chartered Pakistan, said greater legal awareness empowers individuals to make informed decisions and contributes to a more inclusive workplace. He added that the bank remains committed to creating opportunities for learning and dialogue that benefit employees and the wider community.
Haya Emaan Zahid said legal awareness is a key step toward empowerment because it helps people understand their rights and access available support services. She added that the Legal Aid Society values its partnership with Standard Chartered in promoting informed discussions on issues affecting women across Pakistan.
Standard Chartered said the initiative reflects its broader commitment to advancing diversity, inclusion, and women’s economic participation by equipping employees with knowledge of their legal rights and available support mechanisms.
